Rita Messineo

Rita Messineo, a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at the age of 83.

Rita was born in Paterson, NJ on May 13, 1941.  She was a lifelong resident of South Paterson.  She grew up in a large Italian family and was known for her kindness, generosity, and exceptional memory.  As a sign of her love for her family, Rita remembered all of her immediate and extended family’s birthdays and anniversaries and always showered those she loved with affection.  She was a true light in the lives of everyone she met.

Rita was a devout Catholic and a faithful parishioner of St. Agnes R.C. Church in Paterson in her youth and continued her devotion to her Catholic faith as a parishioner of St. Michael R.C. Church in Paterson throughout her adult life.

Rita was predeceased by her parents Frank and Carmella Messineo and her 6 older brothers and sisters:  Helen VanGenderen, Clara Messineo, Marie Messineo, Joseph Messineo, Frank Messineo, and Louis Messineo.  She has now joined them in heaven. 

Rita will be deeply missed by her nieces and nephew:  Eleanor Novack (Mark Coker), Janet Carlock (Tom Carlock), Virginia Cheung (Adrian Cheung), Linda Shnyder (Paul Shnyder), Garry VanGenderen, and Theresa Messineo (Jon Oliver), as well as her great nieces and nephews and her great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. 

Visitation will be held on the morning of Monday, August 5th from 8:30am to 9:30am at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton followed by a 10:00 am Mass at St. Agnes R.C. Church, 681 Main Street, Paterson. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa.
