Roseann "Rosie" (Pico) Valerian

Roseann (nee Pico) Valerian, lovingly known as Rosie, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Bloomfield, New Jersey, at the age of 82. Born on February 27, 1944, in Newark, New Jersey, she resided in Bloomfield, NJ where she lived a life marked by faith, devotion, kindness, and a deep love for her family, friends and community.

Rosie was raised in Bloomfield, New Jersey, and remained there throughout her entire life, becoming a familiar and cherished presence to all who knew her. She carried the values of her Christian faith with grace and humility, and she lived each day with a generous spirit, a passionate heart, and a loving nature. Those who were blessed to know her will remember her as a woman of warmth and strength, someone who offered encouragement, compassion, and steady support to others. Her life was a reflection of the goodness she held in her heart and the faith that guided her steps.

Rosie was the beloved daughter of the late Salvatore and Anna (nee Notare) Pico. She was a devoted mother to her three children, Alison Morgan, Brian Valerian, and Christopher Valerian, and she treasured her role in the lives of her children and her grandchildren. She was especially proud of her eight grandchildren, who were a source of great joy and pride. She nurtured her family with care, wisdom, and affection, and her presence will be deeply missed at every gathering, holiday, and family celebration. The bonds she formed with her loved ones were strong and enduring, built on love, loyalty, and countless shared memories.

Rosie pursued her education with dedication and earned a Master’s Degree, a reflection of her commitment to learning and service. She went on to serve as a Guidance Counselor with the Lincoln Park Board of Education, where she touched many lives through her patience, understanding, and guidance. In her work, she offered support to students with a calm and caring spirit, helping them navigate important decisions and challenges. Her professional life was not only a career but also a calling, and she carried out her responsibilities with integrity, compassion, and a sincere desire to help others succeed. She was respected by colleagues and appreciated by the many people whose lives she influenced through her years of service.

Outside of her work, Rosie found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She loved her family above all else, and she also enjoyed spending time at the beach, visiting casinos, and playing Mah Jong. These interests brought her happiness and gave her opportunities to relax, laugh, and share time with others. Whether she was enjoying a day by the shore, taking part in the excitement of a casino, or sitting down for a game of Mah Jong, she embraced life with enthusiasm and a spirit of enjoyment. Her passions were part of what made her so memorable, and they reflected her ability to find joy in everyday moments.

Rosie will be remembered as a woman who gave much of herself to others. She was generous in her love, passionate in her convictions, and loving in all that she did. She would often refer to herself as “the richest woman in the world” because of her family and friends.  Her faith in God sustained her throughout her life, and she trusted in the promises of eternal life through Jesus Christ. While her passing leaves a great emptiness in the hearts of those who loved her, her family and friends take comfort in the hope of the Christian faith and in the assurance that she is now at peace in the presence of the Lord and Padre Pio.

Visitation will be held Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Ave., Clifton, NJ 07013. Mass Monday, July 27, 2026 at 9:30 am at St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, 60 Byrd Avenue, Bloomfield, NJ 07003. Please Meet at Church. Interment to follow at Glendale Cemetery, Bloomfield, NJ.
