Roy S. Stesko, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2025, at the age of 76 in Bernards Township, NJ. Born on December 27, 1948, in Paterson, NJ, but he was a lifelong resident of Clifton, NJ, where he established deep roots and an enduring legacy. After serving his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, Roy returned home to channel his leadership and warmth into his entrepreneurial venture, Uncle Roy's Tavern on Van Houten Avenue in Clifton. For over 23 years, the tavern was not just a business but a gathering place that reflected Roy's generous spirit and dedication to his community.
Roy was a former parishioner of St. Paul R.C. Church in Clifton. His commitment to service was evident through his active involvement in the Athenia Veterans Post, the Clifton Moose Lodge and the Clifton Senior Center. Roy's journey of personal growth and transformation was marked by his proud 11-year membership in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he inspired many with his strength and resilience.
Roy's life was a tapestry of relationships and shared experiences. He leaves behind a loving family, including his sister, Joan Capaccio, and her husband, Joseph; his sister, Margaret (Peggy) Parent, and her husband, Daniel; as well as his cherished nieces and nephews and their children, who will remember him as a doting uncle and great-uncle. Roy was predeceased by his father, John Stesko, and mother, Anna Agnes Stesko. His significant other, Cynthia Van Dam, will hold dear the memory of their time together, filled with love, laughter, and mutual support.
As we bid farewell to Roy S. Stesko, Roy's memory will be cherished and kept alive in the stories told at the corner of the bar, the laughter shared at family gatherings, and the quiet moments of reflection by those who were touched by his kindness. Rest in peace, Roy; your spirit endures.
