Samir Issa, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 4, 1942, in Latakia, Syria, Samir's journey led him from his birthplace to a life full of love, laughter, and service in the United States.
Samir's early years in Syria were marked by dedication and service as he was educated and served in the Syrian Army. In 1972, he embarked on a new chapter, bringing his resilience and spirit to the United States. He initially settled in Paterson, New Jersey, before finding a long-term home in Clifton, where he resided for 35 years. Samir's entrepreneurial spirit shone through as the owner of Solid Gold Jewelers in Irvington, where he served his community with integrity and a warm smile until his well-deserved retirement.
Married to his beloved wife, Marie (nee Abou Assi), Samir was a devoted family man. Together, they raised their son, Marc Issa, and his wife, Melissa, and their daughter, Michelle Malki, and her husband, Maher. Samir's joy was multiplied with the birth of his grandchildren, Mia, Matthew, Emma, and Hailey, who will remember their grandfather for his boundless generosity and his knack for making every moment joyful.
Though most of his brothers and sisters predeceased him, except for his sister, Mounira, Samir's legacy of love and laughter lives on through his family and the many lives he touched. He was a member of the St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church in Little Falls, where he found spiritual solace and community.
Samir's love for the ocean was profound. He cherished his time at the beach in Wildwood, New Jersey, where the waves and the salt air brought him peace. An avid saltwater fisherman, he found joy in the simplicity of casting a line and waiting for nature to respond. His hobbies extended beyond the shore as he was a talented carpenter and painter. Samir's hands were rarely still, as he took on small projects for friends and family, completing them with skill and refusing any compensation. His generosity was as natural to him as breathing, and his ability to make people laugh was a gift that brightened every room he entered.
Samir Issa was a man of many talents, but it was his generous spirit, his sense of humor, and his handy skills that defined him. He lived a life that was full and gave freely of himself to those around him. As we say goodbye to Samir, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart generously shared, and a legacy of joy that will continue to echo in the lives of those who knew him. Samir's memory will be cherished and kept alive through the stories and laughter he leaves behind.
