Stephen Richard Mihalovic, 100, formerly of Clifton, passed away peacefully on Thursday September 18th, 2025.
Born in Garfield, Mr. Mihalovic was raised in Clifton and attended Clifton High School and lived in Clifton for most of his life before moving to Vernon a few years ago. Prior to retiring in 1992 from GEC, he had been employed with several electronic establishments in both supervisory and administrative positions throughout his career. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II aboard the USS Enterprise CV6, USS Intrepid CV11 and USS Hancock CV19 as an Aviation Radioman and Gunner First Class flying in SBD Dauntless and Helldiver dive bombers in the South Pacific. For his service, he received the Distinguished Flying Cross and four Air Medals and was inducted into the Enlisted Combat Aircrewman Roll of Honor aboard the USS Yorktown CV10 in Patriots Point, SC in 1999. Mr. Mihalovic was a faithful parishioner of St. Brendan-St. George RC Church, Lakeview Avenue in Clifton and was a sixty-three-year member of the Knights of Columbus Regina Mundi Council #3969, a member of the Clifton Deriter Club, AARP #1995, USS Intrepid Former Crewmembers Association, Life Member of the USS Hancock Former Crewmembers Association and American Legion Post 8, Clifton. He enjoyed fishing, rock hunting, lapidary, playing cards and golf but above all else, spending time with and being in the company of his family and friends.
Mr. Mihalovic was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy A. (nee Faulseit), who passed away on August 13th, 2009; by his parents Michael and Mary (nee Veliky) Mihalovic; and by his three dear sisters: Helen Butz, Anne Shea and Lorraine Buonocore.
He is survived by his four loving and devoted daughters: Diane Bigos and her husband Tom of Scotia, NY, Denise Kearney and her husband Martin of Chevy Chase, MD, Mary Ann Sidebottom and her husband Paul of Vernon and Dorothy (Dottie) Sarisky of East Stroudsburg, PA; his cherished grandchildren: Michael Bigos, Kenneth Bigos, Stephen Healing, Christopher Healing and Amanda Healing Torres, John Sidebottom, David Sidebottom, Cody Sarisky and Kim Kearney; sixteen treasured great-grandchildren: Drake Barker Bigos, Logan Barker Bigos, Xavier Bigos Perez, Damian Bigos Perez, Averie Healing, Brodie Healing, Skylar Healing, Parker Healing, John Paul Sidebottom, Lawrence Sidebottom, Benjamin Torres, Lily Torres, Neva Torres, Harper Sidebottom, Steven Garcia and Sophie Steed; and by his many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Mihalovic’s daughters would also like to extend sincere appreciation and say “thank you” to all that have contributed to their dad’s care and comfort.
Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Funeral Tuesday 9:15am from the funeral home and 10:00am at St. Brendan-St. George RC Church, cor. Lakeview and Crooks Avenues, Clifton. Interment to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery Saddle Brook.
