Stefan “Steve” Sedlak, 92, of Saddle Brook passed away peacefully on Wednesday November 8th, 2023.
Born and raised in Udol, Czechoslovakia, Mr. Sedlak came to the United States in 1950, settling in Clifton, specifically on Kulick Street, and had lived in Saddle Brook since 1965. Prior to retiring in 1996, he was a self-employed welder operating as Sedlak Iron Works in Saddle Brook. He was a lifelong parishioner of the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel in Passaic and a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokol. In his younger years, he was an avid competitive bodybuilder who, in 1959, came in fourth place in the Mr. Eastern America competition and placed second in Mr. New Jersey for 1959, 1960 and 1961. Throughout his adult years, he enjoyed many outdoor interests and hobbies including hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, riding quads, mowing the lawn on his tractor and tending to his massive garden on the property of his second home in Jackson, PA which sat on sixty acres he affectionately referred to as “God’s country”.
Mr. Sedlak was predeceased by his loved and missed parents, Michael and Helen (nee Kravcak) Sedlak as well as by his five dear siblings: John, Michael Jr., Nicholas and Paul Sedlak and Helen Manz.
He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Gudrun (nee Draht) Sedlak, of Saddle Brook, to whom he was her eternal “Sweetie”; his two loving and devoted children: Steve Sedlak and his wife, Bett, of Washington Twp., NJ and Christine Mania and her husband, Michael, of Bayville, NJ; and by his six loved and cherished grandchildren: Christine Noel, Michael III, Ryan, Brendan, Stephanie and Sean.
Visiting will be Friday from 4-8pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Parastas 4:30pm. Funeral Saturday beginning 9:15am at the funeral home followed by the Byzantine Liturgy at 10:00am at the Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel, 96 First Street, Passaic. Interment St. Michael’s Cemetery, South Hackensack.
