Thomas Campbell Obituary

Thomas M. Campbell, born in Montclair, passed away quietly on February 17, 2024 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Tom, as most knew him, had been dealing with multiple health issues since 2001 and his body could no longer fight the good fight.

Tom lived the early years of his life in Clifton, New Jersey with his parents Joan and Richard Campbell, his brothers Rich and Jim and sister, Maryellen. He attended Catholic school through his senior year at Paul VI High School with some of the best friends he would ever know and ones that remained an important part of his entire life.

He worked multiple jobs at Chicken Hero, Dairy Queen and painting until he became a Clifton Police Officer in 1987, his true calling. Tom was one of Clifton’s Finest earning Cop of the Year in 1995 and a place in the Clifton Merchant as “Top Cop”. Those that knew him best jokingly called him T.C. from then on.

One fateful night in June of 1988, he was the responding officer to a car accident on the corner of Main and DeMott Avenues. A year later he would once again encounter the girl from that night and ultimately end up marrying her. He jokingly said they met “by accident”.  Tom and Pat married in July of 1991 and began a life that included two wonderful children, Kacey and Derek.

Some of his proudest moments were watching his children perform and delighting in their many accomplishments. Tom shared his love of music with both children and enjoyed watching them excel. He lived for the time he shared with family and friends.

Tom was also an avid cyclist, a passion he shared with Derek and anyone else he could convince to ride.

Tom could never sit still, so once he retired, he picked up other jobs at The Newton Theater and MetLife Stadium. He was in his glory watching football and concerts, but missed his public service. He started working security at Pope John Middle School in 2017 to fill the void. Everywhere he went Tom left his mark and made a myriad of friends. He will be sorely missed.

Tom was predeceased by his parents, Joan and Richard and older brother, Rich.

He is survived by his wife, of 32 years Patricia. His daughter, Kacey and son, Derek. His sister, Maryellen and her husband, Doug and their daughters, Kate and Sara, his brother, Jim and his son, Max and Jim’s wife, Andrea. Along with his in laws, Michael and Beth Sledge, Cynthia Rose, Tom and Sharon Sledge, Brian and Olesia Sledge along with their children and grandchildren.
