Thomas J. Guadagno, known affectionately as Tommy to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025, at his home in Woodland Park, NJ, encircled by his loving family, holding his hands. Born on May 28, 1941, in Brooklyn, NY, Tom's journey through life was marked by an unwavering dedication to education, a passion for the arts, and a deep commitment to his family and friends. Tom is survived by his loving wife, Arlene Guadagno, with whom he shared a beautiful and enduring partnership for 50 years. He was a devoted father to his daughters, Amanda M. Guadagno and Julia L. Butera, and a father-in-law to Daniel Butera. His legacy continues through his grandson, Adam Butera, who brought him immense joy. He also leaves behind his sister, Marie Nicosia, and is predeceased by his sister Esther Guadagno and brother Vincent Guadagno. An alumnus of Long Island University, Tom earned his Bachelor's Degree before pursuing a Master's Degree from Hunter College. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a remarkable career as a teacher with the New York City Board of Education, an evening assistant professor at Briarcliff College, an English tutor, and a professional proofreader. Tom's dedication to his students and his craft was evident to all who worked alongside him, and his influence extended beyond the classroom. A man of many interests, Tom was an avid world traveler, and a lover of music and literature. His intellectual curiosity was matched by his spiritual pursuits, and he often engaged in deep discussions in his book club and current events group. When he retired, Tom studied painting at the The NY Academy of Art, painted, all day at home and sold dozens of his works at NYC art fairs. With his extra time, he studied piano!
Above all, Tom was a grammarian who delighted in the intricacies of language, a funny and generous soul who could light up a room with his humor, and a loving family man who also dutifully cared for his parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. His presence was a source of stability and love, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. "He was my rock!", Arlene. Tom's life was a beautiful mosaic of the roles he cherished—educator, mentor, husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. As we bid farewell to Thomas J. Guadagno, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will be cherished and kept alive in the hearts of his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
