Thomas Mullin, 82, of Clifton, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Thomas Mullin. A longtime fixture in Clifton Public Schools and the Clifton community at large, Tom received a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Peter’s University and a Master of Arts degree from Fordham University. He completed his 6th year level in Administration and Supervision at Montclair State University. Before his retirement, Tom taught French, English and Russian at Clifton High School, later becoming the Supervisor of World Languages. Additionally, he taught ESL in the Clifton Evening School before becoming its director. He served as a Commissioner on the Clifton Board of Recreation for 50 years, receiving the Clifton Friend of Recreation Award in 2001, and in 2018 was recognized by the Mayor and City Council for his many years of service. Tom’s wisdom, experience as well as his kind and gentle demeanor had an immeasurable impact on the Clifton Education Foundation since 2001. As a member of the St. Philip the Apostle Knights of Columbus, he was also on the Knights of Columbus Scholarship Committee in support of the Msgr. Peter Doody Scholarship Fund. Tom received a Special Appreciation Award in 2015 for his many contributions. Tom taught an AARP Safe Driving Course for 10 years and methodology classes for the United States Power Squadrons. Until recently, he was involved in the Vessel Safety Inspection program through them in conjunction with the US Coast Guard. In June of 2024, the Clifton Recreation Department once again honored Tom for his longtime dedication to the department and City of Clifton by naming the playground at Washington Park the Thomas Mullin Playground.
Tom is survived by his loving wife Joan as well as family, friends and the many students whose lives he touched throughout his career. He will be remembered as a dedicated champion of education and civic responsibility throughout his entire life, remaining active until his passing.
