Virgil Geulen Obituary

Virgil T. Geulen, passed away on May 9, 2026, in Cedar Grove, New Jersey, at the age of 72.

Born on February 8, 1954, in Loboc, Bohol, Philippines, Virgil lived a life marked by quiet strength, devotion to family, and a generous spirit that touched everyone who knew him. He carried with him the values of his upbringing throughout his life, and those who loved him will remember him as a funny, gentle, and selfless man whose presence brought comfort and warmth to those around him.

Virgil came to the United States in 1985 and first settled in Los Angeles, California, before later making his home in Jersey City and then Clifton, New Jersey. He built a life through hard work, perseverance, and dedication, and he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, a reflection of both his intelligence and his commitment to learning. Before his retirement, he was employed as the Purchasing Manager in the Engineering Department of Interstate Brands Corp. in Fairfield, New Jersey, where he was respected for his professionalism, reliability, and steady manner.

A man of many talents and simple joys, Virgil especially loved cooking traditional Filipino dishes, and he became well known for his Humba, which family and friends cherished. He also enjoyed music and could often be heard singing along with his favorite entertainers, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, and Johnny Mathis. These pleasures reflected the warmth of his personality and the happiness he found in sharing life’s everyday moments with those he loved.

Virgil is survived by his wife, Myrna Geulen, née Balcita; his children, Vallery and John, Vladimir and Brigid, Vanilyn and Scott, Vienna and Daniel, Marc, and Janina and Jolina; his grandchildren, Kyle, Bea and Jiro, Sean and Veronica, Derek and Violet, Edward Jonathan and his wife Jessica, and Abel; and his great-grandchild, Hayden. He is also survived by his former wife, Vilma, and his sisters, Evangeline and Jocelyn. He was deeply proud of his family, and his love for them was evident in the care, encouragement, and steady presence he offered throughout his life.

Virgil will be remembered for the kindness he extended so naturally, the humor that brightened ordinary days, and the gentle way he made others feel valued. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and devotion that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Though he has departed this life, the memory of Virgil’s good nature, his laughter, and his unwavering selflessness will remain a lasting blessing to those he leaves behind.
