Walter Rizaniw, 89, of Clifton, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021. Born in Kharkiv (Cyxa Balka), Ukraine, Mr. Rizaniw immigrated to Sao Paolo, Brazil then Montreal, Canada prior to moving to the United States in 1965 and settling in Passaic. He has been a Clifton resident since 1978. Before retirement, Mr. Rizaniw was employed as a machinist with LSI Labeling Co. of Mahwah.
He was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary’s Protectress Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Clifton for 56 years where he held positions as President and church elder.
Walter loved gardening, animals and watching soccer with his grandsons. He also was a true American Patriot who loved this country.
Mr. Rizaniw was predeceased by his brother, Bill Rizaniw in 2004 and his sister Halyna Rizaniw during WWII.
Mr. Rizaniw is survived by his beloved wife, Lida (nee Kryvycky); three children, Halyna Figuracion and her husband Philip of Montclair, NJ, Lisa Rizaniw and her partner Glen Koch of Roxbury, NJ and Wasyl Rizaniw and his wife, Olga of Poltava, Ukraine; one sister, Lesia Suchodko of Sao Paolo, Brazil; and four loving grandchildren, Alex and Nicholas Figuracion of Montclair, NJ and Dimitry and Vladislav Rizaniw of Poltava, Ukraine.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton. Parastas 5:00 pm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 9:30 am from the funeral home and 10:00 am at Ukrainian Orthodox Holy Ascension Cathedral, 635 Broad Street, Clifton. Interment to follow at St. Andrew Cemetery in South Boundbrook. Condolences to the family may be left on the Tribute Wall section of the obituary at www.bizubquinlan.com.
