Walter Sudol Obituary

Walter E. “Wally” Sudol, 80, of Clifton passed away peacefully on July 21, 2022.

Born in Passaic, Wally was raised in Wallington and had resided in Clifton since 1969. He was a graduate of Wallington High School and while there, played saxophone and clarinet and was a jazz and early rock and roll music enthusiast. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree in Economics from Tulane University in 1963 and while doing so was enrolled in the ROTC program which led to a career spanning many years serving in the United States Navy. Early on Wally served aboard a destroyer before attending Pensacola Flight School in Florida. He did two tours during the Vietnam War, flying numerous reconnaissance missions and was even shot down while on one of them and fortunately was quickly rescued. He finished his military career living in Albany, GA, retiring with the rank of Captain and from there moved to Clifton in 1969 and has resided there since. Wally then went on to earn his Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Seton Hall University Law School in 1975 and was employed as a Contract Attorney for Peckar & Abramson, P.C. until retirement. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) and was a Mason.

Wally was predeceased by his dearly loved daughter, Karen A. Sudol, who passed away only three weeks before him on June 30, 2022 and by his dearly missed parents, Walter F. and Ann (nee Kopec) Sudol.

He is survived by his beloved wife of fifty-four years, June (nee Jancio) Sudol, of Clifton; his loving and devoted daughter, Alyson Sudol, also of Clifton; and by his dear brother, Rev. Gerard Sudol, of Hawley, PA.
