William Burns, Jr., of Woodland Park, passed away on April 23, 2026 at the age of 71. Born on June 7, 1954, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, he lived a life marked by hard work, devotion and a warm spirit that touched those closest to him.
Bill was the beloved husband of Ruth (née Velock) Burns, and father of Craig Burns, Joseph Burns, and Cheryl Lynn and brother to Richard Burns and Judy Burns. His faithful companion, Betty White, his beloved pit bull, was never far from his side and brought him great comfort.
Bill was raised is Roselle and graduated from Roselle High School and soon began building a career defined by dedication and reliability. Bill worked as a tractor trailer driver early onwith Caretta Trucking in Paramus, where he met the future love of his life, Ruth. He later continued his tractor trailer-driving career with Hostess Bakery through Teamsters Local 194 and eventually with United Parcel Service in Saddle Brook through Teamsters Local 177, from which he retired. In each role he held, Bill was respected for his strong work ethic, loyalty, and the pride he took in doing a job well and was proud of never having had a single accident throughout his lengthy driving career.
He was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life and took great pride in the things he loved, especially his Ford Mustang, keeping it waxed and spotless, and never taking it out unless the day was perfect. That care and attention reflected the way he approached life, with appreciation for quality, patience, and a sense of enjoyment in the details. He was funny, friendly, and a selfless man. Those who knew Bill will remember his smile, his humor and the kindness he extended to others and he will be missed and remembered by all who shared in his life.
