William P. Degen

William P. Degen, 83, of Whiting, formerly of Clifton, passed away on Saturday February 26, 2022 with his family by his bedside.

            Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Bill moved to Clifton in 1959, where he and his wife, Jean (nee Cole) Degen, raised their four children before moving to Whiting in 2004. Prior to his retirement in 2003, Bill spent most of his career employed as a machinist with Precision Screen in Hawthorne. Bill was a proud veteran of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and was Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Known lovingly as “Wild Bill”, he was always one to stay active. He enjoyed woodworking, playing darts, and bowling. He loved to travel and enjoyed his many winters spent in Zephyrhills, Florida, and cherished his summers spent in Maine with his siblings.

            Bill was predeceased by a dearly loved son, Mark Degen; by a missed son-in-law, Paul Lichtenberger, and a dear brother, James Degen.

            He is survived by his loved and caring wife of sixty-two years, Jean (nee Cole) Degen, of Whiting; three devoted children: Deborah Lichtenberger of Whiting, Scott Degen and his wife, Angie, of Clifton and Jill Venturini and her husband, Jack, of Boonton; four dear siblings: Anna Starbird of Florida, Barney Degen of Maine, John Degen of Spain and Henry Degen, also of Maine; six cherished grandchildren: Nicole, Jaime, Alison, Kelly, Heather and Giancarlo; and five treasured great-grandchildren: JP, Cody, Jayden, Gunner and Brieana.

            Memorial Visitation will be Thursday March 3^rd at Bizub-Quinlan Funeral Home, 1313 Van Houten Avenue, Clifton from 2-6pm with a Memorial Service to be held at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to VFW Post 7165, 491 Valley Road, Clifton, NJ 07013 would be appreciated.
